I live near a beach??

Apparently, yes. A friend of mine invited me to the beach a couple of days ago and, still being a water baby at heart, I lept at the chance. Well, I lept at it right after making a few advanced apologies for my extreme paleness -English people look at me and say, "crikey, you're pale!"- and for being slightly squishier than the last time he saw me in a swimsuit. Winter was not kind to me. Damn the french and their cheese.
Aaaaanyway. After work, we suited up and headed down to my favorite beach. I like to hang out at the far (south) end, where there are less people, and I have had good luck fishing in the past. It's on sort-of an inlet, where the intercoastal waterway meets the ocean, and on this day, the water was warm, and almost glassy. I usually like a bit of wave action-I'm not a surfer, but I like bodysurfing, when I can. But the water was so still, I could see right to the bottom, even standing chest-deep in it. We frolicked and floated, and sat and chilled. And then, just as the sun was setting into the haze, we headed to a little grill on the way back into town that had boiled peel-and-eat shrimp and bloody marys. All in all, a lovely end to the day. I must make a habit of it.

didn't want to wake up.

I gotta tell ya. I had the most fantastic dream last night. I was touring some really big house, like Biltmore or something, and I wandered into a roped-off area and couldn't find my way out. I was trying to be inconspicuous and still find my group to rejoin them when the absolute cuuuuuutest secret service agent-looking guy approached me with a bemused expression on his face. He was wearing the impeccable suit and the earpiece and everything. I said something like, "honestly, I'm really trying to find the exit. I'm not trying to hurt anybody or be where I'm not supposed to be or anything." And he just smiled, put his hand gently on my elbow, and walked with me through some hallways and staircases that were definitely not part of the regular tour. And he walked close to me the entire time, so I could feel his body warmth through his suit. I said, "are you not going to get in trouble for leaving your post or something?" and he chuckled and said it was okay. I can't remember anything else that was said, but as is often the case in dreams, I was left with the sense of warmth and mutual attraction.
He took me to the fish petting area (??) of the house, and then went back to his post. I sat down at the edge of a little raised pond area where a bunch of goldfish were doing their best to get at the outstretched hands of the other visitors. They weren't hungry- they wanted to rub against fingers like cats do. I stuck my hand out, and immediately had a goldfish wanting to be petted. But then, some guy that was sitting next to me at the fish petting place started giving me a really bad backrub. I didn't know what to do, he seemed like he was just trying to be nice, so I let him do it for about 5 or 10 seconds, then I got up to leave. Creepy backrub guy followed, seemed pissed that I would not now agree to be his girlfriend, and it all ended with me beating him up with my purse and running downstairs to the main lobby and gift shop.
Once I felt sure that I'd escaped, I sat down on an out of the way step to collect my things and wait for the rest of my group to arrive. I noticed another cute secret-service-type guy ( but not as cute as the first) was looking at me, trying to make eye contact. So I looked at him and smiled (a sort-of "hello" kinda smile, not a flirty smile) and he came over. He asked if I was (my name), and he used my first initial too, which not everyone knows, and with a confused look, I said yes. He said that the guard/agent from before had been looking for me, and wanted to say that he enjoyed meeting me and hoped I had a good rest of the day. I think I beamed, and blushed, and said something like, "me too." But the guy was already heading away. I called after him and asked, "How did he know my name?" but he just smiled enigmatically and continued walking. The impression I got (because it's my dream, and I can speak in impressions if I want to) was that he was the secret service, and he could find anyone, and he'd chosen to look me up, and since I'd smiled like I'd just been busted checking out his butt when his friend mentioned his name, that meant that it was okay with me if he called me sometime.

On your marks, get set,...

Let's play,...The Family Feud!!

Okay, no one's really feuding, but it does look like that faux family snapshot they use on the game show when they're introducing the families.
This is a shot of Mom, me, Granddad, and Dad from my trip to Mississippi a few weeks ago. I had a great time, and was able to see a lot of my family that I haven't seen in over a year. gooooood tiiiiiiiiimes. :)

Wheeee!!

Rockets redly glaring!

Kids and explosives...

...is there anything more American than that?
